There are varied meanings for tarot cards. Google a tarot card and you’ll get hundreds of different interpretations. A common interpretation of the two of wands is making a choice between two paths. So, I firmly placed my figure between the two wands with a shape leading back towards the horizon – representing a path forward or back – depending on the situation.

Most cards also have associated keywords. For my card, I chose to focus on Personal Power, Boldness, Originality. I wanted to make this a strong, positive card. I also made a specific choice for my figure to be a curvy, round girl to represent the strength of personal power.

Use of Color: For our deck, red represents the suit of wands, so I used it for the image’s background. I kept the whites in the card to pop the figure forward on the path.

Media: I used a base of prismacolor markers and then layered prismacolor colored pencils over the top to add a little depth.

This is my second card for the Tarot project at www.illustratedatcs.com. I think this is almost final, but I want to add some prismacolor pencil shadows and highlights to give it a little extra oompf and depth. Will post that version when I’ve finished!

This is the last outline drawing for the Tarot project at www.illustratedatcs.com. Now, I just have to figure out my color palettes for this and the Ace of Cups card. this one requires some red because it’s in the wands suite.

Sometimes when I’m really happy with an outline drawing, I get nervous about filing in the color. This has happened with all three Tarot cards. We’ll see where they lead me!

Ace of Cups – Digital Color Test

For the Tarot project at www.illustratedatcs.com. I’m testing out some color palettes before hand coloring the original. Not quite sure that I’m there yet. Plus i miss the subtle variations that you get with markers or pencil. Hmmm?

Here’s the line drawing for the my first minor arcana. In addition to working in the cup, I also wanted to bring in water and a heart.

In the final, colored version, I’ll need to work in a fair amount of blue, but I want it to be colorful! For the first time ever, I’m testing some colors by digitally coloring the file. This should help me avoid some surprises when I work on the original. I’ll post my first colored in version.

Right now, I don’t know how to work in all the shading and subtle color in digital coloring. So, for now, I’ll test some colors in the digital and color the original by hand.

Here’s my Star card with color! I wanted to create a female star. I was going for a web of constellations as her hair and a glowing, brilliant center for her core. I was trying to keep a fairly limited palette, but still create a colorful, eye-catching design.

Outline for the Star Zetti Tarot Card

22 04 2008

I’m working on a collaborative project with the amazing artists at www.illustratedatcs.com. We are creating a “Zetti” style original tarot deck.

Most artists are doing one of the major arcana cards and 2 of the suit cards. I have the Star for my major and the Ace of Cups and Two of Batons for my minors.

This is the outline drawing for the star.
